Welcome to the new Victoria Hotspurs FC website

It is with great pleasure and pride that I welcome our supporters and friends to this newly-developed website. As you can attest the website is cutting-edge and professionally-designed that we feel reflects the current status of Victoria Hotspurs Football Club. We did not simply want to create just another ‘normal’ website but we wanted to create an innovative and visually-attractive one.

Thanks to the contributions of Gozitan web-developers Keen Ltd and, in particular, of our committee member Ing. Karl Zammit, who was tasked with the compilation of all photos and literature, the final product is for all to enjoy. Our Club’s recent philosophy has been not simply to do things just for the sake of doing them but to do them as best as can be – with a huge dose of love, attention, passion and pride thrown into the mix. This approach has brought our Club and our team to the dizzying heights we are now experiencing.

This website is meant to establish an open channel of communication between our fans and club officials and players. It is meant to be an interactive website with constant updates about the Club’s daily occurrences reported in a timely and attractive way to the benefit of our viewership. This website will complement the Club’s Facebook page and our Instagram and Twitter accounts which, all combined, make Victoria Hotspurs F.C. very well-connected on social media.

I am sure you will also notice the Club’s new logo that was launched only some weeks ago. Its modern lines and look also reflect the new brand image of our beloved Club. A special thanks to the new logo’s designer, the talented Mr Noel Debono.

Let us all continue supporting our great players, our coaches and team manager. Let us keep faith with our hard-working Committee members. Let us applaud the important contributions of the Red Army Supporters Club and the City Girls Fan Club.

Let us all continue carrying high the Victoria Hotspurs Football Club flag.

MATCH REPORT

Victoria Hotspurs left it late to put their minds at rest from the qualification to the next round of the competition in their match against Attard despite the fact that they held command of play throughout the encounter. The Hotspurs scored an early goal but seemed overconfident for most of the first half so that they conceded an opportunity to their less quoted opponents to take the break with a positive result. The Hotspurs however increased their pressure from the early stages of the second period and earned the victory by scoring three goals.

The Gozitan champions had an excellent start and opened the score in the fourth minute of play through a close ranged shot by Andrew Mizzi following a cross by Chris Camilleri. On 14 minutes the Hotspurs could have doubled the score but an effort by Stanimir Miloskovic was well saved by goalie Luke Attard. The Hotspurs were again dangerous on 23 minutes but the same goalkeeper was well placed to neutralize a shot by Elton Da Silva. On the half hour mark goalie Luke Attard was again called to make a good intervention following an attempt by Elton \da Silva and on 35 ,minutes Attard leveled the score through a fine strike by Nigel Spiteri from the edge of the area that ended out of the reach of Victoria’s keeper Adrian Parnis. In the first minute of stoppage time before half time the Hotspurs could have regained the lead but Andrew Mizzi failed to connect to an inviting low cross by Elton Da Silva and the defense cleared the danger.

After the break the hosts regained full command of play and on 51 minutes a good shot by Elton Da Silva ended just wide. The Hotspurs regained the lead on 55 minutes through a low drive by Andre Mizzi that surprised Attard’s goalie. On 64 minutes Victoria Hotspurs practically made sure of the qualification when they score the third goal through a strike from long distance by Christopher Camilleri. The same Camilleri had another attempt on 77 minutes from a good position that ended wide and three minutes later Victoria scored their fourth goal through substitute Henrique De Souza Maciel who took the ball from Attard’s defense and placed easily into an open goal after avoiding the goalkeeper. On 90 minutes Attard’s goalie Luke Attard denied Victoria’s Elton Da Silva from adding another goal so that the score remained unchanged until the final whistle.

MATCH REPORT

Gozitan reigning champions Victoria Hotspurs as expected earned an easy qualification from the Preliminary Round of the competition and registered a large score in their win over Msida St Joseph. The Hotspurs confirmed their strong potential as they are considered as hot favourites for all the Gozitan honours and are also aiming to be competitive in this edition of the FA Trophy. Msida tried hard to resist to their opponents but only managed to keep a respectable score for the first half. The main protagonist in this win was Henrique Maciel who scored four personal goals.
The Hotspurs opened the score in their first serious attempt that arrived on 10 minutes when Henrique De Souza Maciel passed through Msida’s defence with a personal action and placed in goal with a low shot. Victoria continued to hold command of play but they failed to create serious scoring opportunities in the following minutes. Msida replied on 29 minutes through a low shot by Omar Cristiano that ended just wide. On 45 minutes the Hotspurs once again threatened Msida’s defence but a shot from an angled position by Henrique Maciel hit the side of the net.

After the break the hosts seemed more aggressive in their play and on 59 minutes a header by Daniel Sowatey following a corner kick by Jason Pace was deflected to another corner with the goalkeeper beaten. On 50 minutes the Hotspurs doubled the score through a shot from the edge of the area by Andrea Debrincat and two minutes later they increased the score through a strike by Elton Da Silva following a personal action. Msida lost their concentration and the Hotspurs took advantage as they continued to pile pressure on their opponents. On the hour mark Henrique De Souza Maciel added another goal when he concluded a fine move by Elton Da Silva and five minutes later Andrew Mizzi made it 5-0 when he took the ball following a personal action inside Msida’s area by Henrique Maciel. On 67 minutes Elton Da Silva produced a personal action and placed the ball easily behind Msida’s goalie. The visitors were reduced to ten players on 71 minutes when Matthew Bonnici was sent off for a foul on Henrique Maciel. Victoria’s Henrique De Souza Maciel made it 7-0 with another goal that arrived following a personal action and two minutes later Henrique De Souza Maciel scored his fourth personal goal and the eighth for his side with a low shot from an unmarked position.

MATCH REPORT
The football season 2018/2019 in Gozo kicked off with the final of the GFA Super Cup that was contested by the champions of last season Victoria Hotspurs and the winners of last season’s BOV GFA Cup Xewkija Tigers. The reigning champions confirmed the excellent form expressed during most of the last season and took the Super Cup trophy for the ninth time in their history with a deserved win over Xewkija, who were the holders for the previous three editions.

The match attracted a large crowd to the Gozo Stadium as both Victoria and Xewkija are considered to be among the hot favourites to challenge for the main honours. The two sides had some of their respective latest signings in their line up and based on the first competitive match it appears that the two sides have the potential to meet the expectations. Victoria Hotspurs were undoubtedly more impressive as they held command of play and made sure of the win with four goals scored during the first half despite the fact that they suffered a goal during the opening minutes of the encounter. Xewkija failed to capitalise from the experience of most of their players and found it extremely difficult to share play especially during the first half.

The Tigers, however, had an encouraging start as they opened the score after fifty seconds of play through a close ranged shot by Darko Krstic who received inside the area from Claudio Antunes. Minutes later the same Antunes headed incredibly high from an ideal position following a cross by Shaun Bajada but as time passed by the Hotspurs gained command of the midfield and levelled the score on 7 minutes through a low drive by Christopher Camilleri after exchanging the ball with Elton Da Silva. Two minutes later Xewkija had a goal by Darko Krstic that was disallowed for an offside and on 11 minutes Xewkija’s keeper Mark Grima was well placed to neutralise a free kick by Chris Camilleri. The Hotspurs turned the result in their favour on 24 minutes when Xewkija’s defence failed to clear the ball from the goalmouth following consecutive attempts by Elton Da Silva and Christian Mercieca. The ball arrived to Stanimir Miloskovic who fired easily in goal from close distance. The same Miloskovic entered Xewkija’s area with a personal action two minutes later but Xewkija’s keeper managed to block the danger and on 27 minutes the same keeper was called to make another important intervention to deny Elton Da Silva from scoring when he was alone in the area. On 34 minutes Elton Da Silva had an effort directly from a free kick that was stopped by the post and five minutes later the Hotspurs increased their lead through Elton Da Silva who concluded from an unmarked position a low cross by Christian Mercieca. Elton Da Silva made it 4-1 for his side on 42 minutes when he won the ball following a short back pass by Xewkija’s central defender Sergio Arturo Martinez Villa, had his first attempt partially saved by goalie Mark Grima but netted easily from the rebound.

Xewkija’s keeper was again called to make a difficult intervention on 54 minutes to turn to a corner a strike by Christian Mercieca. Xewkija, who made some tactical changes for the second period, tried to recover the deficit but they only managed to reduce the score by one goal that arrived on 56 minutes when Darko Krstic had a close ranged shot blocked by the defence and form the rebound Owen Spiteri concluded from an unmarked position. For the rest of the match the Hotspurs administered play and went close to score more goals on more than one occasion. On 66 minutes Emiliano Lattes released Christian Mercieca but the latter saw his effort saved to a corner by Xewkija’s keeper and on 73 minutes Elton Da Silva entered Xewkija’s territory with a personal action but his attempt missed the target. The Hotspurs had another good opportunity to score the fifth goal on 90 minutes but a short from an angled position by substitute Andrea Debrincat ended just wide.

After the end of the match the President of the Gozo Football Association, in the presence of other GFA officials presented the souvenirs, medals, trophies and the Super Cup to Victoria’s captain Ferdinando Apap among the celebrations of Victoria’s supporters.
