Hotspurs Left to Rue Errors

Victoria Hotspurs 1 – 3 Senglea Athletic

Scorer; 38′ Christian Saint Ebisindor

Victoria Hotspurs suffered their second consecutive defeat in the Amateur League 1, losing 3-1 to Senglea Athletic. Kurt Borg was missing due to suspension while Claudio Antunes was re introduced in the midfield.

The Hotspurs started well, with Christian Mercieca shooting over the bar from an ideal position early on. The Reds continued to threaten through efforts from Ferdinando Apap and Cadu, while Senglea responded with attempts from Rudy Cassar-Jackson and Matthew Brincat inside the opening half hour. The breakthrough arrived on 37 minutes when Christian Ebisindor Saint headed home from a Shaun Attard cross, giving the Gozo side a 1-0 half-time lead.

After the break, Senglea turned the game around in style. Substitute Kieran Curmi equalised four minutes after the restart before Rudy Cassar-Jackson capitalised on a midfield error to put his side ahead four minutes after the equaliser. The Hotspurs looked subdued but nevertheless picked up creating chances. Rondinely, Christian Mercieca and Ferdinando Apap all came close to level out matter but all, somehow, failed to find the net in one way or the other. In stoppage time, Cassar-Jackson, perhaps the best right winger at this level, sealed the win with his second goal and the third for Senglea from quick counterattack.

The last game of the season, on Sunday 3rd May against Mqabba F.C. will decide who will earn promotion to the BOV Challenge League.

We encourage all our supporters to support our boys in Red!
