Victoria Hotspurs F.C. 4 – 1 Mqabba F.C.
Scorers: Rondinely Roberto Monteiro 20′, Rondinely Roberto Monteiro 31′, Kurt Borg 44′, Emmanuel Mbong 53′

League leaders Victoria Hotspurs cruised to a comfortable victory Sunday afternoon at the Sirens Stadium, beating second-placed Mqabba 4-1 in a top of the table clash. With the score already 3-0 at half-time, the game turned out to be a no-contest, with the Gozitans dominating.

The team of coach Oliver Spiteri took the lead on 20 minutes with a fine effort by Brazilian target-man Rondinely that gave Mqabba goalkeeper Mario Bartolo no chance. Victoria could have made it 2-0 on 30 minutes with a stinger by Kurt Borg was brilliantly saved by Bartolo for a corner. From another corner a minute later it was 2-0 with a simple tap in for Rondinely after Borg’s shot had been superbly saved by Bartolo again. The Hotspurs continued dominating proceedings and not much later, Kurt Borg was again denied a goal by another superb Bartolo save. But one minute before the end of the first half, Borg finally got his goal giving the Gozitans a comfortable lead at the break.

The fourth goal arrived on 53 minutes courtesy of Emmanuel Mbong as the match turned into a mere statistic. The match went down a gear after that however, also with an eye on Victoria’s FA Trophy game with Floriana on Thursday. Mqabba managed to score a consolation goal three minutes from time courtesy of Ryan Dalli.
