Hotspurs Make it 3 Wins from 3 Matches

In their maiden season in the MFA, Victoria Hotspurs surely do not disappoint, bagging another three points on Sunday afternoon at the Centenary Stadium. Their opponent, Siggiewi, played bravely but were undone with an own goal in stoppage time of the first half, followed by another Hotspurs strike mid-way the second period. By winning all three games, the Gozitans are the only team in this division on maximum points.

Shaun Attard should have opened for the Gozitans in their very first attack of the match when, served by Wellington, the lanky striker’s attempt sailed over the bar.
It proved to be a rare opportunity for the Hotspurs as Siggiewi, in fine shape, managed to keep the Reds at bay for long stretches. On 42 minutes, Siggiewi goalkeeper Leon Seisun did well to parade an Emmanuel Mbong attempt. Mbong was in the thick of the action once more deep into stoppage time when he was sent through with his goal attempt bouncing off Siggiewi defender Clayton Borg to give Victoria the advantage before going into the break.

Oliver Spiteri’s side increased their efforts to double after the break with Wellington coming close on 62 minutes. Four minutes later, the Hotspurs doubled through half-time substitute Martin Buttigieg, rounding off a precise Ferdinando Apap cross. This goal most definitely took the intensity out of the game, with the league leaders home and dry to bag another important three points in their quest for the honours.
