Davor Filipovic Appointed as Head Coach

Victoria Hotspurs Football Club is pleased to announce that it has agreed terms with Mr. Davor Filipovic to be engaged as the Club’s Head Coach for the season 2023-2024.

Coach Filipovic, aged 53 and a Croatian national, is an ex-professional football player having played in European football leagues in Yugoslavia, Switzerland, Italy, Croatia and Malta (Sliema Wanderers (1991-1993 and 1998-1999).

Following his retirement from football Mr. Filpovic embarked on a coaching career and obtained a UEFA Licence A Certificate.

Mr. Filipovic coached various nurseries and Under 14 to Under 19 age categories amongst which with Al-Ahli Dubai in the UAE, Brescia Calcio in Italy, Sliema Wanderers F.C. and Qormi in Malta.

He also occupied the positions of Head Coach and Assistant Coach with Senglea Athletics (Malta Premier League 2019-2020) and Mosta F.C. (Malta Premier League 2020-2021).

Mr. Davor Filipovic has been given the task to assist Victoria Hotspurs FC regain top flight football status in Gozo this coming season after the team was surprisingly relegated to Second Division this past season.

Newly-elected Club President Dr. Anton Tabone, who returned to the helm of the Club after a 3-year hiatus, welcomed the arrival of seasoned coach Davor Filipovic and stated “Davor has been entrusted with the technical and coaching duties at Victoria Hotspurs F.C. as the Club works its way back to where it truly belongs, that is, to compete for the top-most positions of Gozo football. We expect Davor to lead our team towards football success, whilst at the same, conveying to our players all the experience and expertise that he has accumulated over the years teaching and coaching football to all ages. I am confident that with Davor’s appointment the desired results will follow. This year is a transitionary year for us as we will also be working assiduously to place the Club on sounder long-term financial, structural and administrative foundations”.

On his part, Mr Davor Filipovic expressed his delight for being appointed Head Coach. “Victoria Hotspurs F.C. is a glorious and historical Club having won the Gozo football league 13 times in its history together with dozens of other trophies. I want to be instrumental in bringing Victoria Hotspurs back in First Division as well as to contribute all my accumulated football experience to the benefit of the players and the team.”
