Ten-man Hotspurs Start the Amateur League I with a Win
Victoria Hotspurs 3 – 1 Pembroke Athleta
Scorers; Wagner Eduardo Alves Pereira 51′, Kurt Borg 61′, Ferdinando Apap 76′

In the first fixture at the Sirens Stadium on Saturday, Victoria Hotspurs once again faced off against Pembroke Athleta in a repeat fixture from last week’s Jubilee Cup encounter. Despite playing with ten men for most of the match, the outcome of the game was the same as last week, a deserved 3-1 victory for the Gozitans. Pembroke should have taken advantage of their numerical superiority in this match but somehow failed to do so against a well-organized Victoria Hotspurs team, fresh from their Championship winning Amateur League I campaign.

But it were the Hotspurs who took the lead at the start of the second half with a wonder goal by Wagner who caught Rapa off his line and lobbed the ball home from almost the halfway line. The Gozitans doubled with a good goal by Kurt Borg just after the hour, but Pembroke managed to pull one back courtesy of Weverton Gomes who pounced on a fine opportunity on 66 minutes. The Hotspurs made sure of the points on 76 minutes when captain Ferdinando Apap smashed a shot from inside the box, consolidating their advantage with relative ease in the remaining time left.
